Don t Freq Out

Don't Freq Out

The Get Your Freq On seminar on navigating the spectrum upheaval as a wireless mic operator occurred last weekend and went reasonably well, if we do say so ourselves. Special thanks to Howard Kaufman of Lectrosonics, Colleen Goodsir of Zaxcom, Ben Escobedo of Shure, and everyone who attended either online or in person!

If you missed it, we've posted the video online and made the speakers' presentations available in PDF format here:

Or if you prefer the TLDR version, the most salient points are below the jump.

Don't Freq Out

It's an uncertain time to be in the wireless business. With the finalized results of the spectrum auction, production use of frequencies above 617 MHz will be illegal in 2020 and impractical in many markets much sooner - some mobile carriers have announced deployment in the 600 MHz band starting this month.

However, the good news is that the wireless manufacturers have been assiduously devising systems that can continue to transmit and receive clean, reliable signal under the new rules and offer the flexibility to keep you working when the rules change again.

Presenters will include:

The seminar will take place on Sunday, September 10th from 12pm-3pm EST at Gotham's NY shop in Long Island City, but will also be broadcast live on livestream and our facebook page.

Light refreshments will be provided.

The event is free, but RSVP here or on our facebook event to help us get a headcount.

Bags of Tricks

Bags of Tricks

Join us in Long Island City on Saturday, February 18th from 12-4pm for Build-A-Bag day!

Bring in your audio bag and share tips and tricks, powering solutions, ways to lighten the bag, organization schemes, walkie routing options, etc.! See how other mixers are tackling the challenges of bag mixing and what they're doing to make their day to day easier.

Gotham will be on hand to help with ideas and provide demo items (plus refreshments!)

Big hat tip to Alex Ramirez for conceiving the idea and helping organize, not to mention writing a great pitch email we cribbed freely from.

Entry is free, but it'd help us plan if you <a data-cke-saved-href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/build-a-bag-tickets-31496466780" href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/build-a-bag-tickets-31496466780" target="_blank" "="">RSVP so we have an approximate headcount!

Austin's Second "Annual" Mixer Mixer is coming up on Sunday, August 14th at 8pm at the Buzz Mill!

From the organizers:

Come on down to get some drinks, have a good time, and meet up with Texas' finest sound folks. No matter your home city, feel free to come join us, as well as bringing any others you like! Just make sure they don't mind talking about sound a lot. There is no real set "end" time - last time we went pretty late into the night with people coming and going, so don't be afraid of coming late, even if it is a few hours.

Dan Joseph from Gotham Sound Atlanta will be there with demo gear and swag in hand!
